Zusammenfassung

Kick-off Veranstaltung am 10. März 2022, 9.30 -13 Uhr (virtuell)

Summary

Kick-off event on March 10, 2022, 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. (virtual)

As part of the KI.NRW flagship project ZERTIFIZIERTE KI, the user group "Trustworthy cloud-based AI services" was launched with a kick-off.

The event with more than 100 participants * was divided into 3 parts: Placement of the user group in the political-strategic context, presentation of the goals and planned activities of the user group, and impulses from the user perspective by Microsoft Deutschland GmbH, Google Germany GmbH, and Telekom Deutschland.

Axel Voss, Member of the European Parliament (CDU), started the event with an impulse regarding the importance of a leading role for Europe in the development of technical standards on the topic of AI. The technical implementation or solution of the requirements from the AI Act can only work with standards. The strategic role of Trusted AI was underlined as well as the role of stakeholders as drivers in this context.

Irina Orssich, Head of Sector AI Policy at the European Commission, also presented the current status of the AI Act, the proposal for European AI regulation, and referred to the need for standards. Here, she particularly highlighted the risk-based approach of the draft regulation and addressed requirements for high-risk AI systems.

Daniel Loevenich, project leader at the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, and Joachim Lonien, head of business development at DIN, explained in their presentation the importance of a horizontal standard for trustworthy AI, which needs to be developed on the basis of test criteria and test methods. The draft AI Act provides a corresponding plea for such a horizontal standard, on which sectoral standards should be based.

Dr. Maximilian Poretschkin, Team Leader "AI Assurance and Certification" at Fraunhofer IAIS and Dr. Peter Deussen, National Standards Officer at Microsoft Deutschland GmbH underlined in their presentation on AI Management Systems, their importance to support the EU regulatory proposal.

The 2nd part of the event focused on the user community itself. Hendrik Reese, Director AI at PwC Germany, and Daniel Loevenich, BSI, explained in their presentation Trustworthy cloud based AI Services the main objectives of the user group: development of testing principles, validation based on use cases, and transfer to standardization activities.

Christine Fuß, project leader at DIN, placed the user group in the context of the overall "Zertifizierte KI" project and explained the work organization of the user group and the opportunities for participation.

The event was rounded off by presentations from the perspective of providers and users. These clearly illustrated the goals of the user group:

Thomas Langkabel, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Deutschland GmbH, presented Microsoft's AI principles and addressed sensitive AI application scenarios.

Thoralf Schwanitz, working in Government Affairs & Public Policy Google Cloud at Google Germany, showed the application areas and possibilities of AI at Google and presented the company's commitment to the development of AI governance and frameworks.

Waldemar Mach, Senior Product Manager Voicification & AI at Telekom Germany shared his experience on AIC4 auditing at Telekom Germany with the participants. He presented the successful implementation of AIC4 at Telekom and showed the way to trustworthy AI in customer dialog.
